Charming discoveries: Insieme

I was delighted to hear about this new album, “Insieme”, which brings together tenor Jonas Kaufmann, teaming up with baritone Ludovic Tézier for duets from some of the most popular operas. The CD was released on October 7 this year on Sony Classical and, nevertheless, carries emotional weight. It was recorded with Antonio Pappano and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

Behind the catchy and predictive title of the album, meaning “together” in Italian, are reunited selections from Puccini, Ponchielli, and Verdi’s operas. The duets from Verdi’s works make the CD’s central part. It is known that Kaufmann and Tézier have collaborated throughout the years on such operas as La Forza del Destino, Tosca, Aida, Don Carlos, and Werther, among many others, and the fluid connection between their voices manages to generate together an outstanding result. So, it does in the “Insieme” album.

This CD comes after numerous positive reviews of the pair’s past performances. However, we could say that both the chosen works and the vocal qualities of the two interprets speak for themselves. We cannot fail to mention that this album came as a necessity and a joy in the music market.
